EPAT Shockwave Therapy

Live your life, pain free

What is EPAT Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology, also referred to as EPAT shockwave therapy, is an FDA-approved, highly effective, and noninvasive treatment method for musculoskeletal conditions. It uses pressure waves to help stimulate cell metabolism, enhanced blood supply and accelerate the healing process. EPAT shockwave therapy helps with chronic problems from repetitive overuse or sport-related injuries, such as those resulting from running or tennis. The rapid high-intensity pressure waves using the handheld device are applied throughout the injured site and accelerate the natural healing of the injury.

What disorders can be treated?

Generally, EPAT shockwave therapy helps treat acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain and/or pain that significantly impairs mobility or quality of life including:
  • Foot and heel pain
  • Achilles pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfer's elbow
  • Chronic hamstring strains
  • Trigger points

What are the expected results?

As the procedure eliminates pain and restores full mobility, some patients report immediate pain relief after the treatment. However, it can take up to four weeks for pain relief to begin. Over 80% of patients treated report to be pain-free or have significant pain reduction and thus an improved quality of life.

How is the treatment performed?

First, coupling gel is applied to the treatment area of interest to enhance effectiveness. After preparation, a handheld applicator device releases EPATĀ® pressure waves throughout the injury site in a circular motion. The overall treatment is entirely noninvasive and pain-free.

What is the duration of the treatment and how many treatments will I need?

Our EPAT shockwave therapy sessions in IL can take approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on the condition being treated. We also encourage at least 4 treatment sessions at weekly intervals to maximize treatment effectiveness. Over 80% of patients treated with EPAT shockwave therapy report to be pain-free or have significant pain reduction after concluding treatment.
